Last year, in-house designer Marie Michielssen took her first venture into ceramics. Anyone familiar with the versatile designer’s oeuvre knows that Marie has a penchant for materials that she can literally shape with her hands. First, she ventured into the Helena vases in black and white, which clearly show the irregular shape of the hand modelling. These shapes then inspired her to use them as the basis for the simple ambient Catherine lamp. A lamp is a source of warmth and cosiness for Marie. Even when it’s not turned on, the object radiates an atmosphere. That’s why she chose two tactile materials: ceramic for the base in an inviting deep red and linen for the lampshade.
