The renovation of a typical 1980s apartment house presents a challenge in finding a balance between the scale of the intervention, the budget, the identity of the space and the architecture of the building itself. How to respond to the functional needs of the new era within the existing structure? How to go beyond the existing form and identity of the building and the space in which it stands? How to respond to climate change?
Reducing the form of the existing building, adding simple volumes, uprooting traditional architectural elements such as the pergola and classical windows and using traditional materials are the main approaches to redefine the existing building in a new context and respond to the demands of climate change.
