This stoneware serving bowl was designed vertically. By combining (inverted) plates into one element, new shapes were created that literally take the presentation of dishes to a higher level. This serving plate has been finished with a red glaze.

La Mère, the first ceramic tableware line of Marie Michielssen, is a loving ode to the (grand-)mother figure and women in general. By embracing eating together as a moment that connects people, the collection reflects the often intuitive roles women have fulfilled in family life through the generations.

The tableware looks slightly nostalgic but is, in many ways, innovative because of its vertical structure. Each shape is unique and hand-moulded.

All pieces are finished with a glaze in broken white or a warm dark brown, almost black. As a third contrasting colour, Marie chose a bold Venetian red. The designer consciously chose these colours to create a mix & match of white with dark brown or red with dark brown.

On some plates, Marie painted two different, universal women’s faces. The emphasis is on the eyes – the mirrors of the soul – and the hands – tools to create. The proceeds of these plates go to a good cause.
